How this calculator works
We divide your effective monthly cost (annual plans get converted to a monthly equivalent) by how often you actually use it, giving you a true cost per use — not the sticker price, but what you're really paying each time you open the app or walk through the door.
If you give us the cost of paying as you go instead, we calculate the break-even usage: the number of times a month you'd need to use it for the subscription to actually be cheaper than paying per use. Use it more than that and the subscription wins; use it less and you'd save money switching to pay-as-you-go. Without an alternative cost, we just show you the cost per use so you can judge for yourself whether that's worth it.
What this doesn't account for
- Convenience — not having to book, pay, or decide each time has real value that's hard to price.
- Whether the pay-as-you-go alternative is actually available every time you'd want it.
- Price increases, introductory discounts, or promotional periods that change the real cost over time.
- Bundled perks (ad-free, exclusive content, discounts elsewhere) that come with some subscriptions.
